That back to school feeling

That back to school feeling

I wanted to talk about learning. A skill that some adults have let go of, we expect children to do it every day. The approach to learning in a school environment just didn't suit me. There was constant competition, comparison and certainly shame if you didn't meet expectation. There was no joy to be found in learning for me back then.

It is no wonder that some adults have subsequently formed their comfort zones of skills, and lost confident to put themselves in the position of not knowing, suspending their disbelief, just braving to have a go. I think it's fear of failure, fear of losing face, but in reality, if it doesn't work it doesn't matter, as a wise friend once said to me.

I nurture a supportive, friendly atmosphere in my workshops, where it is safe to make mistakes, I do it all the time, especially if it's getting close to lunch time!  The difference is, the outcome of the activity is not a grade, but enjoyment and going home with a thing that you made yourself, with a new skill you can practice and improve in time, everyone is cheerleading you, everyone wants you to do well.

There are willow and floristry workshops to be found on this website. Suitable for beginners and reluctant learners alike! we will have a cuppa and something yummy to go alongside it and you will go home with something that you have made.

Call me if you want to chat about it first. Time learning is never wasted, you never know, you may pick up a new hobby, friends or even a new career.  x
